“ With great love and compassion all things are possible. I believe our work in life should inspire people. To all of the generous and talented people who are changing the world one step at a time, I am humbled and inspired. ”
— Melissa Maur
I have spent the past couple of years really thinking about the next stage of my journey. Who do I want to be? What do I want to explore? How can I make the world a better place? It all comes down to this: Design.
Design is in my blood. It is who I am and what I love most. I want it to be inclusive. I want it to have purpose. I draw inspiration every day from my exceptional special needs child. She inspires me. She humbles me. She shows me that anything is possible.
As an award-winning Senior Apparel designer with proven experience in women’s, children’s and men’s apparel, across multiple categories – I have designed for global and private label brands as well as multiple Fortune 500 uniform campaigns.
Early in my career, I joined the Li & Fung Ralsey USA team, one of the largest, pre-eminent, private label companies. My extensive background with private- label has given me tremendous insight into how to serve the branding needs of diverse clientele best. I have also designed for brands such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Anthropology, Ann Taylor, Victoria's Secret, Garnet Hill, JCPenny and Talbots, Boston Proper and Orvis – just to name a few.
During my 9+ year tenure at Lands' End, Canvas retail, and Lands' End Business Outfitters, I was awarded Image of the Year award for my JP Morgan Chase Bank uniform program, and Innovative Design of the Year for Verizon Wireless Uniform. I have also designed for Delta above and below the wing and Southwest Airlines In flight uniforms , amongst many others. I was instrumental in the launching critical categories for the contemporary Canvas brand, and was the design and concept lead for Lands' End women's largest apparel categories.
I graduated from Parson's School of Design with a Bachelor Degree in Fine Art, majoring in Apparel design where I was awarded the prestigious Golden Thimble award for excellence in design. Passionate about continuing my education, I pursued a certificate degree in UX/UI Web and Mobile platform design at Parsons Open campus, courses on sustainability at FIT, and honorary certificate from WIBO. I currently received a certification in Project Management from Google.
A project I am most passionate about is being a Co-chair for a district wide elementary program called Building Bridges. This program educates kids about people with physical and intellectual differences. Because of this passion I currently consult for Gamut Management. This organization helps bring adaptive projects into the market place for PWDs.
When I’m not designing, pitching new concepts, or looking for new growth opportunities, you will find me traveling, scuba diving, snowboarding, gardening, and most importantly enjoying my family at the beach.
